Met up with the BTB gang at Dirty Pelican Island in High Island, Texas on Tuesday, 6/7/2011 at around 8:45a.m. BTB gang included: Mythman(Myke), Redhead fishing(Dave) and Bigfost(Jim), as we were chatting on the beach the owner of texaskayakfisherman.com (Tom) shows up with a santa cruz raptor in the back of his truck. He was rating the yak for the manufacturer and wanted everyone to try it out. I opted for no thanks as my outback was rigged up and ready to go. No one in that group took it out. we headed out BTB and anchored down at around 10 feet deep. Bait busting all over the place but no takers. we move on to about 13 feet, mythman catches the first gafftop. as we are sitting there Redhead fishing takes off on sleigh ride pulled by a shark. he lands a solid 5 foot bull shark. we fish there for a while and no more hits. we move on to 20 feet and everyone start getting runs. Bigfost hooks up to a few sharks including a 6.5 foot, 200lb plus bull shark. Mythman and redhead on bull reds. then I hook up on a monster bull red, land it in about 10min. Did not have a measuring tape but the fish had to be 42-45in long. then boom, shark on! My calcutta starts screaming and some 50yds away the brute jumps out of the water as I set the hook. He takes me for a sleigh ride as redhead follows as back up, some 20minutes later and 300yd away into the deep away from the gang I land the shark and bring him boat side. What a rush! redhead snaps some pictures before I release him and heads back to the gang. I arrange my stuff and turn around to start peddling back to the gang. I start peddling and as I get closer I realize that there is a man in the water and the raptor is sunk but floating. TD(Tim) who had joined us later had taken on water and had to be pulled out of the deep by Mythman all the way back to the beach.I attempted to pull TD my self but his way was too much for my outback and was making it too unstable to peddle. At the end we caught some 8 sharks, some bull reds and gafftops and saved a life as we pulled Tim out of the deep some 1.25miles all the way back to the beach.
went out with Lewis and we met up with Minh at Fatboys to pick up some bait, this is at around 3:30p.m. I picked up some live shrimp and Minh got dead shrimp. we launched from the parking area under the cause way and begin fishing the bay on the west side of the cause way with no luck. Mihn and I moved in to fish under the cause way and we got a couple of hits but no takers. I then moved on to the rail Rd bridge next to the cause way and started getting hits right away. I caught 3 reds within 15minutes, 15", 16" and 19". the first one was a heart pounding one as it was the largest and I knew the STAR tourney is on and tagged reds have been caught out of there in years past. I called Lewis and Mihn to move there as I was getting hits but they did not have the same luck. Must have been the live shrimp doing the trick. Tide started moving at around 6:30p.m. I caught some small croaker and sheepshead through out the afternoon but no keepers. At around 7:00p.m. I get a run on a red fish and it's a heart pounding again as i know this is bigger than 20" from the screaming line. I reel it in and i must turn that fish over from side to side some 16 times looking for that tag. NO TAG. we come in at around 8:30 just as it's getting dark. another fun day out in the water.
went out with Lewis on 5/28/2011 to sportsmans road, fished there for about three hours and very little to show for it. some hard heads and under size sheepshead. Moved on too coldpass and fished the marsh first and then moved out to titalum bayou with same results as sportsmans rd. fought heavy winds and very light bite all day long. fished until 3:30p.m. and headed in for the day.
Met up with Mynh, aka alwaysinshorts on TKF, at his house and we headed for High Island. Got there around 0900 and launched from the old McFaddin sign to get to 11 feet of water and started fishing. Not long passed when I get the first run only to loose it before I get my hands on the rod and reel. Not long after we both started getting hits and started catching bull reds and gigantous gaftops. I managed to hook up on a 5 foot shark but lost him early into the figt. He snaped my leader in half. All in all a great day on the water.
waiting for Josh to wake up to go see Jennifer at her work. I got good Friday off.
